Decay dynamics of compound nuclei using collective fragmentation approach

Description
During last over one decade, collective fragmentation approach of Dynamical Cluster Decay Model (DCM) has been applied to understand various decay mechanisms of a large number of nuclei formed in low-energy heavy-ion reactions. Various decay possibilities such as Evaporation Residue (ER), Intermediate Mass fragments (IMP), Heavy Mass Fragments (HMF) and symmetric/asymmetric fission fragments along with the competing non-compound nucleus mechanisms have been analyzed by incorporating the temperature, deformations and angular momentum effects. In view of above, the present work is aimed to explore the reaction mechanism induced via loosely bound projectile (9Be). Various anomalous properties of such projectiles like low binding energy per nucleon leading to low breakup threshold, larger rms radius, higher transfer probability etc., captivate the attention of scientists working in related field. Thus, an effort is made to analyze the impact of 9Be beam on 89Y target, exhibiting complete fusion (CF) and incomplete fusion (ICF) processes over energy range (Ec.m = 17.7-29.8 MeV) within DCM. The projectile used in 9Be+89Y reaction may dissociate into 5He, 4He and 1n, which may lead to ICF contribution via three different channels. Thus, the reaction dynamics of all ICF channels (5He + 89Y → 94Nb*, 4He + 89Y → 93Nb* and 1n+89Y → 90Y*) is duly examined. The calculations are done for quadrupole (β2i-deformed) choice of fragments using optimum orientations approach. It is observed that DCM calculated cross sections for CF and ICF channels are in nice agreement with the experimental data. Furthermore, the comparative analysis of different isotopes of Technetium (96,98,102Tc) has been explored at comparable excitation energy (E*CN) with reference to the available data. (author)
