An apparatus for granulating powders

Description

The apparatus comprises an inner cylinder rotating about a substantially horizontal axis, a device for introducing powder into the first end of said inner cylinder in which that powder undergoes granulation during while rotating, a perforated wall near its second extremity through which powder can pass with the exception of granules, an outer cylinder the diameter of which decreases from the first to the second extremity so that the powder passing through the perforated wall falls on the inner surface thereof and is driven towards the larger diameter extremity, and a device actuated by the rotating outer cylinder and adapted to re-introduce the powder reaching the larger diameter extremity into the inner cylinder first extremity. This can be used for granulating, in particular, uranium oxide powders

Abstract (French)

L'appareil comporte un cylindre interne tournant autour d'un axe sensiblement horizontal, un dispositif pour introduire la poudre dans la premiere extremite du cylindre interne dans lequel elle est granulee pendant sa rotation, une paroi perforee pres de sa seconde extremite a travers laquelle peut passer la poudre non agglomeree, mais pas les granules, un cylindre externe ayant un diametre qui decroit de la premiere a la seconde extremite de maniere que la poudre traversant la paroi perforee tombe sur sa surface interne pour etre ramenee vers l'extremite de grand diametre et un dispositif actionne par la rotation du cylindre externe pour reintroduire dans la premiere extremite du cylindre interne la poudre atteignant l'extremite de grand diametre. Ceci est applicable a la granulation d'une poudre notamment d'une poudre d'oxyde d'uranium
