Evaluation of the clinical value of myocardial scintigraphy with 99-Tc-m pyrophosphate

Description
The aim of the study was to investigate the influence of intraobserver variability on the outcome of myocardial scintigraphy and to evaluate its clinical importance. From the results it was concluded that pyrophosphate (PYP) myocardial scintigraphy is of less value than previously reported in diagnosing acute myocardial infarction (AMI). A large interobserver variability existed in a blind evaluation, but this variability could be smoothened out when receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were plotted for each disease. The overlap between different diseases was great, and myocardial scintigraphy should therefore only be used as an additional tool in the diagnosis of AMI
