Lanthanides separation by counter - current electrophoretic using α - hydroxyisobutyric acid

Description

Studies about counter-current electrophoretic separation of rare earth metal ions using α-hydroxyisobutyric acid as complexing electrolyte are discussed. La, Pr, Nd, Sm and Eu were separated and fractions with purities better than 99,9% were obtained, using neutron activation analysis. A relation between the first stability constant of the α-hydroxyisobutyrate/lanthanide complexes and their migration velocities were observed. (M.J.C.)

Abstract (Portuguese)

Discutem-se estudos sobre a separacao dos ions lantanidicos por eletromigracao contra-corrente (EMCC), usando-se acido α-hidroxiisobutirico como eletrolito complexante. Foram separados os elementos La, Pr, Nd, Sm e Eu, e obtidas fracoes com uma pureza > 99,9%, usando-se o metodo de analise por ativacao com neutrons. Observou-se uma relacao entre a primeira constante de estabilidade dos complexos α-hidroxiisobutirato-lantanidicos e a velocidade de migracao dos ions. (M.J.C.)
