Evaluation of safety-cognition effect of ionizing radiation to non-radiation staff on conception of knowledge, attitude, belief and practices

Description
Objective: To analyze the effect of training and education on radiation protection to non-radiation staffs in hospital based on conception of knowledge, attitude, belief and practices (KABP), and to provide reference for effective cooperation between clinical departments and nuclear medicine department. Methods: Questionnaire surveys were performed before and after training and management intervention to staff who were closely contacted with patients undergone radionuclide examination. The questionnaire was designed on the basis of KABP, including four aspects: nuclear and radiation knowledge, characteristics and applications of radionuclides, medical protection for ionizing radiation and supervision of nuclear and radiation. The score of the questionnaire was used with assignment method. Results: The scores were significantly higher after training and education (P < 0.01). Conclusion: Training, education and scientific research on radiation protection can effectively improve the ability of KABP to non-radiation staffs in a hospital. Attention should be paid to strengthen the interventions of the management departments. (authors)
