Description

Composite ion exchangers containing polyacrylonitrile and one of the following inorganic constituents were tested: BaSO4 activated with Ca, ammonium salt of trihydrogenphosphato-dodecamolybdic acid, nickel-potassium double hexacyanoferrates(II), hydrated TiO2, hydrated MnO2, MgO, sodium titanate, synthetic M315 mordenite, synthetic Na-Y zeolite, and clinoptilolite. Preconcentration of radiocesium, radiocobalt, and radium was examined for the purposes of water contamination monitoring, and removal of 137Cs and 90Sr from long-term fuel storage pool water and of 226Ra from brine eluates was investigated as a means of purification of liquid radioactive wastes. The experiments and results are described. (P.A.). 35 refs
