Description

The consistency of GRID lifetime measurements in 36Cl and the slowing-down process of 0.5 keV Cl atoms in various chlorides (NaCl, KCl, SrCl2, BaCl2) were studied. Doppler broadened lineshapes of transitions in 36Cl following thermal neutron capture in 35Cl were measured. The analysis of the lineshapes leads to a consistent description in all compounds and, for the very short lifetimes in the 30-80 fs range, even indicates the most probable collision sequences.
