Preparation and investigation of tetramethylammonium hydroiodate crystals

Description
It is shown that acid salt of N(CH3)4IO3XHIO3XH2O composition forms in N(CH3)4IO3-HIO3-H2O system. Composition and peculiarities of the structure were investigated by the methods of infrared spectroscopy, thermal analysis and nuclear quadrupole resonance. The obtained data testify to the presence of two nonequivalent iodine atoms in crystal unit cell; one of them enters IO3- group, another - HIO3 group. IO3- and HIO3 groups are bound by hydrogen bonds. Hydroiodate crystallohydrate transforms into tetramethylammonium pyroiodate at temperatures above 140 deg C
