Description

We are developing a fast counter for energy loss ΔE using a thin inorganic scintillator to realize online selection of atomic number Z of a radioactive isotope (RI) beam in the in-flight fragment separator. We measured the time and charge resolution of a thin yttrium aluminum perovskite (cerium) (YAP(Ce)) scintillation counter by using heavy ion beams. The resultant time resolution is ∼25 ps for a 200-MeV/nucleon 84Kr beam; however, the charge resolution needs further improvement.(author)
