On the possibility of formation of chemical bonds with electrons from low lying orbitals

Description
New polymorphic forms of tin have been determined with the Moessbauer effect in thin tin films. The isomeric shifts of some of the observed tin structures are far beyond the isomeric shifts of the known tin phases and compounds. An attempt is made to explain these phenomena with participation of electrons from the (4d) shells in the chemical bonding. (author)
