A survey on the biogeochemical anomalies at several areas in the district of Marang, Terengganu

Description
Geochemical exploration sampling method is not always able to locate the presence of hidden minerals. Biogeochemical method was reported to contribute positively towards achieving the objective. However, the method requires analytical technique of high sensitivity. Gold, for instant, exists in biological materials in ppb level. A study was conducted to survey the possibilities of a biogeochemical anomaly for mineralisation of gold in some areas in Marang, Terengganu. The study was also intended to demonstrate the capability of Neutron Activation Analysis (NAA) technique to determine gold at very low concentration in geological and botanical samples. Samples collected were soils/sediments and plants. Dried leaves samples were ashed prior to the analysis. All samples were analysed by using the INAA technique. Result shows that the biogeochemical anomaly is present in the study area especially in areas of Lubuk Mandi, Sungai Kerak and Tanah Lubuk Hampa Che Said where extensive gold panning activities by local residents were observed
