A review is given of relevant accelerator types for the single-pass FEL system and the variants of storage rings for the multitraversal 'single-pass' or oscillation model FEL system. In addition, FEL performance limitations related to the electron beam parameters are examined and optimization of the accelerator/storage ring for enhanced FEL performance is discussed.
