An examination of the evaluation method for mechanical properties of carbon materials by means of hardness tests
- 1. Ibaraki Univ., Hitachi (Japan). Faculty of Engineering
Description
Dynamic hardness tests of Carbon Materials have been performed by means of a dynamic hardness tester that makes possible the continuous measurement of a load applied to the surface and depth intended by a pyramid indentors. Dynamic hardness tests also have made possible an evaluation of strength for carbon materials since the parameters obtained from dynamic hardness tests could be related to strength and modulus of bulk materials. The parameter Uep obtained from the loading process had a good correlation to the bending strength, the Vickers hardness and the elastic strain energy. Those parameters were compared with the elastic energy calculated from the Young's modulus and the bending strength. (author)
