Color characteristics and crystal structure of cadmium sulfide

Description

The boundaries of effect of crystal lattice type and its defectiveness on CdS color characteristics are quantitatively determined. 26 CdS samples prepared by three methods of industrial value are studied. The linear interrelation of the color tone (T) and lightness (L) during CdS color alteration from red-organge (T=49, L=57) to lemon (T=99, L=91) is established. The saturation value in this case varies in the 64-94 range. Well crystallized α-CdS samples with the dimension of particles equalling the dimensions of the region of X-ray coherent scattering (0.1-0.3 μm) are characterized by maximum saturated yellow tone. The reduction of saturation to the minimum value during tone change from lemon to red-organge is conditioned by the presence of built-in syngony elements of α-CdS and β-CdS and a small size of coherent scattering range. (less than 0.1 μm)
