Limitations on the nature and evolution of x-ray binaries

  • 1. Univ. of Arizona, Tucson

Description

Observations of the surface CNO abundances are used to place restrictions on the evolutionary scenarios for producing x-ray binaries. The lack of 14N enhancement is used to infer that the system lost large amounts of mass prior to the supernovae. It is also shown that the current secondaries have lost less than approximately 35% of their original mass
