Effect of Be doping on void swelling in nickel

Description

Ni--Be alloys containing 0.1, 0.3, and 0.7 at. percent beryllium were irradiated with 3.2-MeV 58Ni+ ions at 425, 525, and 6250C. Dose levels between 1 and 30 dpa were obtained at a calculated dose rate of approximately 3 x 10-3 dpa/s. Preliminary transmission-electron microscopy examinations of samples irradiated to approximately 17 dpa show that at 525 and 6250C the void volume fraction in the Ni--0.1 at. percent Be alloy is quite similar to that in pure Ni. However, between 0.1 and 0.7 at. percent Be, the void volume fraction decreases by a factor of approximately 40 at 5250C and approximately 3 at 6250C
