Extinction coefficients of solutions of alkali metals in amines

Description

The extinction coefficient of metal anion and solvated electron was measured in solutions of sodium and potassium in PDA and EDA. Measurements were carried out by (a) measuring the absorbancies and concentration of metal and using the equilibrium M- reversible M+ + 2e-; (b) measuring the rate of increase of the bands with electrical current. The extinction coefficients are: (M-) = 42,500 M-1 cm-1 and (e-) = 2100 M- cm-1. The equilibrium constant for the above reaction is calculated. (U.S.)
