Monitoring of gross beta activity in environmental fallout around Qinshan NPP

Description
The results of gross beta activity monitored during the period of 1993-2002 in environmental fallout samples around Qinshan Nuclear Power Plant are presented in this paper. A total of 191 samples of fallout were collected at 5 monitoring posts in the surrounding area of the NPP. The measured specific activity of gross beta is in the range of 0.11∼3.64 Bq/m2d, with a lO-year average of 0.91 ± 0.49 Bq/m2d, lower than the average, 1.02 ± 0.35 Bq/m2d, measured for Hangzhou City during the period of 1997-2002. It indicated that the specific activity of grass beta in the environmental samples had not increased since the beginning of operation of the NPP. (authors)
