NGC 1068: possible 3-millimeter radio variability

Description

Recent measurements of the 3.3-mm flux density of the Seyfert galaxy NGC 1068 indicate a detection approximately 4 standard deviations above the value implied by an extrapolation of the longer-wavelength radio data. This result, plus our two previously reported detections, together with the fact that over 7 years most of our observations are consistent with the extrapolated flux value, imply that the 3-mm flux of NGC 1068 may be variable. A standard statistical test indicates approximately 0.1 percent significance for the hypothesis that the flux is constant.
