Iron-rich dunites and pegmatoids of the Bushveld Complex

Creators

Description

The widespread distribution of iron-rich dunites and pegmatoids in the Bushveld Complex is stressed. The eastern Bushveld is discussed first and attention is drawn to the famous dunite, and hortonalite dunite platinum pipes of Driekop, Mooihoek and Overwacht. The bodies represent areas of Fe, Ti, Ca and Y enrichment and a large range of volatile elements have also been noted in them and include Hg, Pb, Sn, As, Bi, Te, Ag, Zn, Mo, Se and Cl. It is now clear that the iron-rich dunites and pegmatoids of the Bushveld Complex are of far more importance to theories of genesis of this huge mass of ingneous rocks than was previously thought
