Intrinsic microwave emission from X-ray clusters, and the Sunyaev-Zeldovich effect

The contrasting results of observations of the Sunyaev-Zeldovich (1972) effect are interpreted in terms of magnetic field effects resulting from ionized gas anchored to galaxies. Where gas densities and temperatures make clusters observable in X-rays, the excess of magnetic energy density over kinetic energy density favors such an explanation as well as the mechanism proposed by Benford and Cavallo (1981). The enhancement of observed antenna temperature due to selection of clusters whose angular size equals the antenna full beamwidth of the receiving system may also contribute to the inconsistent observations of the Sunyaev-Zeldovich effect. The anchoring magnetic field is plotted versus the fractional distance for two clusters, and the interval of the fractional distance where enhanced luminosity galaxies are most likely to be found, is shown. Suggestions are made to overcome the magnetic and selection effects
