W.E.G. Practical Guide - Radioactive contamination of low specific activity

The practical guide is intended to make available to the petroleum and natural gas industry in Germany comprehensive information about occurrence of natural radioactivity deposits of low specific activity and proper handling of resulting radioactive contamination of materials in the context of their business activities. The information explains the legal as well as the practical aspects of implementation of safety and precautionary protection measures required by law in handling and use, storage, or carriage and disposal of radioactively contaminated materials. Competences and responsibilities are explained, and guidance is given for specific operational radiation protection, as required by the Radiation Protection Ordinance (Strahlenschutzverordnung). The practical guide is an updated version of the initial guide elaborated by an expert group of the petroleum and natural gas industry in 1995. (orig./CB)
