Deposition and diffusion studies of some radionuclides in sodium systems (Paper No. AR-04)

  • 1. Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research, Kalpakkam (India). Radiochemistry Programme

Description

A clear understanding of the release, transport and deposition behaviour of radionuclides in primary systems of fast reactors is important for the design and safe operation of these reactors. The radionuclides of concern in fast reactor coolant circuits are those with relatively long half-lives such as 60Co, 54Mn, 134Cs, 137Cs etc. This paper describes some of the studies carried out towards development of a radionuclide trap for 137Cs and the determination of the diffusion coefficient of 54Mn in stainless steels in liquid sodium environment. The latter data are necessary for calculating the release rate of this nuclide from structural materials. (author). 5 refs., 2 figs
