Description

Unwanted radioactive contamination produced from irradiation of targets in high projectile energy and high beam current is a major concern in radiation safety in accelerator environment. Long lived radioactive contamination generated requires long term storage. Hence alternate methods which produce minimum radioactive waste is a prime objective for radiation safety. Sometimes metals are irradiated in chloride form. Chloride salts are soluble in water which can be useful for dilution and disperse. When heavy ion is a projectile significant radiotracer are produced from chloride part. Hence knowledge of radiotracer formed from the anionic part is important. In this paper, radiation safety aspects have been discussed for two different chloride targets irradiated with 16O beam. (author)
