The OPECST proposes to replace one out of 2 reactors at the end of their life by EPR
Creators
Description
The OPECST, a commission composed of parliamentarians, has studied the consequences of various energy policies concerning nuclear power. The first scenario is the continuation of the today's energy policy: a production rate of nuclear electricity around 75% that gives a contribution of 1.5% to the country's growth rate through the keeping of low electricity prices. The second scenario is a brutal nuclear energy phaseout that will lead to a sharp increase of electricity costs, a degradation of the energy independence rate of the country and the loss of 400.000 direct and indirect jobs. The third scenario follows a reasoned policy that allows the maturing of renewable energies by replacing only one out of 2 reactors coming at the end of their service life by an EPR. This scenario will lead to a production rate of nuclear electricity of about 55% by 2050. (A.C.)
