Study on enhancement of heat transfer by thermal radiation

Description
Relation to enhancement of heat transfer on the decay heat removal system of LMFBR (Reactor vessel auxiliary cooling system, spent fuel heat removal system), the following items are examined to establish the method of enhancement the heat transfer in gases with effective use of thermal radiation. (1) Survey of the method of heat transfer enhancement. (2) Selection of the method of heat transfer enhancement by heat transfer test. (3) Examination of the application for passive safety system of LMFBR. Following are typical results. (1) Radiation plate, porous bodies and gas-solid suspensions has been examined to enhance the heat transfer. (2) As the result of heat transfer test, high porosity metal with 5 mm thickness and big pore size is effective to enhance combined convective and radiative heat transfer. (3) The feasibilities the utilization of this porous metal for enhancement of heat transfer on passive safety system of LMFBR are pointed out. (author)
