Decay kinetics solvated electrons in liquid ethanol at low temperatures
Description
The kinetics of solvated electron decay in irradiated liquid ethanol in the temperature range of 175-206 K was investigated. The total yield of solvated electrons at 175 K was G(esub(s)sup(-))=3.2 and the rate constants for the first and second order decay 1.2x103sec-1 and 3.1x108 M-1sec-1, respectively. All samples were deteriorated by repeated freezing in liquid nitrogen and pumping down to 10-4 Torr. Electron pulses from a LAE-13/9 MeV linear accelerator (USSR made) were used for irradiating the solutions and the length of the pulses was 0.5 μsec. Doses were 6.5x1017 eV/g per pulse as determined by KSCN dosimeter. Decay of esub(s)sup(-) was studied at Λsub(max)=550 nm. (T.I.)
