Measurement of indoor radon and thoron concentrations in the urban dwellings using plastic track detectors: a case study

  • 1. Department of Applied Physics, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh (India)

Description

The measurements of indoor radon and thoron were made in the dwellings of Firozabad city of Northern India using Twin cup dosimeters with LR-115 type II plastic track detectors. The values of radon concentration ranges from 20.1 to 91.78 Bqm-3; thoron concentration ranges from 11.63 to 73.96 and annual effective dose ranges from 0.86 to 4.39. The values of radon concentration were found to be below the value of 200 recommended by the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP). In addition to that the values of annual effective dose rate were found less than the limit of 3-10 which is recommended by ICRP. (author)
