Analysis of the peak in the mass spectrum of the pp system observed in the reaction pn → ppπ-

Description
The two proton mass spectrum measured in the pn → ppπ- reaction is analyzed phenomenologically near the threshold. The experimental spectrum demonstrates a narrow peak, which appears to be sharper than the predicted peak caused by final state interaction of two protons. It is shown that the observed spectrum near the threshold can be explained via destructive interference of amplitudes corresponding to different reaction mechanisms. 7 refs., 3 figs
