Measurement of low radiation dose by photon counting technique

Description
Photon counting technique has been employed in lyoluminescence (LL) based dosimetric measurements and found to be very successful in precise measurement of low radiation dose. In this technique photon is counted one by one. Mannose has been chosen as the most favoured dosimetric material due to its highest LL-yield among the tissue equivalent saccharides. Since minimising the error requires acquisition of a large number of counts, one would prefer to take no less than 50 mg of mannose for evaluation of the smallest useful dose. It has been found that the smallest useful dose is 0.5 Gy at an error of 3.5% while the threshold dose is 0.1 Gy. (author). 19 refs., 4 figs
