Development and diffusion of the nuclear power reactor: a comparative analysis

This book focuses on the political and technological institutions that developed and disseminated the nuclear power reactor in six nations: the United States, England, France, the Soviet Union, the Federal Republic of Germany, and Canada. As such, it presents extensive case studies of these nations' developmental programs and, even more important, presents a generalized analytic framework which facilitates the comparison of these programs. The framework looks across the individual programs and analyzes them in terms of different national objectives and specific attributes. This permits policy observations to be aggregated from a number of cases rather than derived from a single case study. The final chapter suggests that the framework is useful for making certain policy-relevant comments and that it has validity in regards to other advanced technology development programs
