Aiming at nuclear fusion reactors. Present status of nuclear fusion research and development in JAERI, 1996

Description

In Japan Atomic Energy Research Institute, some research aiming to actualization of nuclear fusion reactor has been executed according to, The 3rd stage nuclear fusion research and development basic program' composed by Japan Committee of Atomic Energy (JAERI). In study on plasma of the nuclear fusion reactor core, an advanced research to promote features of fuel plasma are executed to obtain some effective results on high energy containment and steady operation technique important for nuclear fusion. And, in engineering technique, top level of technology in the world was established in the fields of superconducting magnet, high energy neutron particle radiation equipment, high frequency wave oscillation source development, fuel circulation, and so forth. JAERI plays a central active part of the International Thermal Nuclear Fusion Experimental Reactor (ITER) under organic cooperation with universities, national research institutes and industries. Furthermore, aiming at development of prototype reactor followed with the experimental reactor, some studies such as on advanced core plasma, on engineering techniques required for a long term to develop, on safety, economical system for the fusion reactor, on the others are proceeding. In this booklet, following contents are described; 1) Nuclear fusion reactor, 2) High temperature plasma, 3) Nuclear fusion technology, 4) Fundamental research supporting the nuclear fusion, 5) Future development and organization, 6) International cooperation.
