Description
The influence of intrinsic thermal fields resulting from radiation-induced polymerization of a monomer on the formation of concentration profiles of the graft polymer in a matrix polymer was considered in a framework of model representations. Analytical expressions for the evaluation of the influence of thermal fields on the concentration profiles of the monomer to be grafted were obtained for arbitrary variations in the boundary conditions. It was demonstrated that intrinsic thermal fields cannot explain the occurrence of step-like concentration profiles of the graft polymer, which are characteristic for the specimens obtained by direct gas-phase grafting at high radiation dose rates, or by grafting from the monomer solution upon a postradiation graft polymerization
