Description
The gradual colour bleaching of dyed polymer or plastic films on exposure to gamma radiations has been the subject of numerous investigations. In the present work, Simpson Violet dye solution, in non-aqueous solvents, has been exposed to γ-irradiation and the colour bleaching by irradiation was studied. The colour bleaching was related to the applied dose. In another series of experiments, Simpson Violet dye was internally contained in some polymeric films, such as polystyrene or polymethylmethacrylate which were used for studying the dose-response relationship in each case. Finally, the above mentioned results were compared with the results obtained for externally dyed polymeric films. Most of the aforementioned systems were found suitable for gamma dose evaluation within a certain dose range. (authors)
