Preclinical comparison study of biological assessment of carbon ion beams at Gunma university of heavy ion medical center

Description
The purpose of this study was to assess biologic effect of carbon beam of Gunma University compared with that of Heavy Ion Medical Accelerator in Chiba (HIMAC) before clinical use in vitro and in vivo. The aim of this study is to assess quality assurance of biological effect of heavy ion therapy facility. In vitro study, HSG-C5 cells (human salivary gland cancer) relative biological effectiveness (RBE) values calculate from survival curves at the dose that reduces cell survival to 10% (D10). Cell cycle distribution after carbon irradiation was analyzed by flowcytometry on 6 cm spread-out Bragg peak (SOBP). And we will try to confirm new brief assessment methods using another biological endopoint of RBE values. (author)
