Stability constants of 4-methoxybenzoate complexes of Hg(II), UO2(II), Be(II) and Cu(II) by paper electrophoresis

  • 1. Allahabad Univ. (India). Dept. of Chemistry

Description

Stability constants of complexes of mercury(II), uranyl(II), beryllium(II) and copper(II) have been determined by using paper electrophoretic technique. This technique, which has considerably been modified in the authors' laboratory, is based on the movement of a metal ion spot under an electric field with the complexant added in the background electrolyte. All the metal ions form 1:1 complex with 4-methoxybenzoic acid. The stability constants (log K1 values) of these complexes have been found to be 3.27, 2.32, 1.92 and 1.72 for Hg(II), UO2(II), Be(II) and Cu(II), respectively, at μ = 0.1 and temperature 35degC.
