Description
Recently, Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS), which is an optical diagnostic technique, is emerged as a valuable tool to detect the atomic and molecular species present in trace amount in any test media. The LIBS technique has been applied for quantitative and qualitative determination of the composition of a wide range of materials present in any phase (solid, liquid and gas). Among the applications of LIBS, elemental determination of metallurgical and geological samples has been most popular because LIBS technique has an inherent capability of direct sample analysis without any laborious chemical preparation. This technique has further extended for the analysis of analytical samples such as silicon wafers, paint, rock, polymer, soil, steel and aluminum alloy and mineral etc. LIBS can also be applied as a combustion diagnostics for monitoring the elemental constituents of a combustion product. The detection of trace elements including technetium in liquid is also evaluated with high sensitivity
