Description

The aim of the present study is to understand the seasonal variation of activity concentration of radionuclides viz. 40K, 226Ra and 232Th in sand samples collected from southern coastal areas of Kerala. Samples were analyzed by gamma spectrometry using high efficiency NaI(Tl) detector. Comparatively higher activity was found in post-monsoon and lower activity in monsoon season. There exists a good correlation between the activities of 232Th and the absorbed dose rates. The calculated values of radiological parameters were higher than the recommended values of ICRP. The results are presented and discussed in the paper. (author)
