Description

A new tracer technique application is described in studying experimental burns of rabbit corneas. Experiments are reported with the application of 22Na as a tracer in observing the permeability of rabbit corneas burned with acids or alkalis. The radioisotope was administered in form of 22NaCl in which a chromatographic paper was soaked. The measurement of its kinetics using gamma scintillation counting showed the rate and the extent of the eye injury. The method was found promising for clinical use, especially for glaucoma diagnosis. (L.O.)
