Trial production of standard phantom for CT and evaluation of SCT-100N scanner image

  • 1. Hamamatsu Medical Coll., Shizuoka (Japan)

Description

With the development of a variety of CT scanners, it has become necessary to standardize the evaluation of CT images. The phantom aiming at the standardization of the evaluation of images is now being manufactured for trial, therefore its present situation is introduced as follows. The phantom is being manufactured, based on the following points. (1) To evaluate the performance of CT images from user's standpoint and clarify its limit of diagnostic capacity. (2) To be helpful for the control and maintenance of CT images. (3) To form the foundation of manufacturing the standard phantoms in Japan. The whole phantom is divided into two groups, and they are used by connecting to support stands on the beds for patients. The support stands hold a series of phantoms at their ends, and the axes can be adjusted finely in any direction. Thus the positioning can be made precisely without putting the stands in the photographing field of CT scanners. The capacity of Shimadzu SCT-100N was evaluated with this phantom. (Kobatake, H.)
