Plasma behavior in the Tuman-3 tokamak (comparison of simulations with experiments)

Description

A one-dimensional hybrid transport model is used to analyze experimental results from the Tuman-3 tokamak. The dynamics of the ohmic discharge is studied. The energy loss for the ions can be described by the neoclassical theory, while the electron energy loss is determined by an anomalous thermal conductivity chi/sub e/ = 2.5 x 1017/n cm2 x s-1. A neoclassical pinch effect in the particles plays a role in shaping the plasma density profiles. Impurities affect the onset of the sawtooth oscillations caused by MHD instabilities. The ion temperature at the center of the discharge is studied as a function of the average electron density. Conclusions reached in previous studies regarding the magnitude of the parameter <β/sub T/> and the low value of the ion collisionality parameter (ν(/sub i/<1) are confirmed
