Concept of development of safe equipment for processing spent nuclear fuel

Description

The development of nuclear power has made it necessary to develop complicated production complexes for reprocessing spent nuclear fuel. These complexes are dangerous objects. The danger of the objects is connected with the high toxicity, radioactivity, and strong corrosive action on the constructional materials of the products being reprocessed. Since at the operating plants there is no equipment that can be used for reprocessing the spent nuclear fuel without substantial alterations, it was necessary to perform a deep analysis of the proposed technological schemes, select on the basis of the analysis promising techniques, assess the concepts, and adopt fundamentally new, extraordinary solutions.
