Novel techniques in real photonuclear physics
Description
The recent results of the LADON project at Frascati have proven that useful yields of monochromatic and polarized photon beams can be obtained by the backward Compton scattering of Laser light against the high energy electron circulating in a storage ring. In his paper to this conference Gianni Matone has already indicated the concrete possibilities of extending these techniques at higher energies using machines now under construction or in and advanced planning stage. The conclusions summarized in his transparencies indicate that monochromatic and polarized gamma rays with energy up to 800 MeV with an electron storage ring of 5 GeV can be obtained with an energy resolution of 1%. The intensity of such a beam however will be limited to approx. equal to 107 photons/sec. These estimates indicate the need for future developments in the detectors' field. (orig.)
