A test of non-superweak and maximal CP violation

We propose a non-diagonal generalization of a test, proposed by Wolfstein, of CP violation in the Bsub(d)0-anti Bsub(d)0 system: e+e- -> B10B20 (P wave) -> X0Y0, where X0 and Y0 are CP eigenstates with the same CP eigenvalue, one Kobayashi-Maskawa and the other one KM-forbidden (like psiKsub(L)0 and π+π-, CP=+1). In the limit (ΔGAMMA)2, (ΔM)2<<GAMMA2 (as is predicted in the standard model for Bsub(d)0-anti Bsub(d)0), the cross section is just proportional to sin2(phi1-phi2), where phi1, phi2 are the phases defined by Sanda et al. for both modes. One can thus in principle isolate a pure non-superweak effect phi1not=phi2), like in the epsilon' parameter of K0, anti K0. In the KM model sin2(phi1-phi2)approx.=O(1), but the branching ratios of these exclusive decays are expected to be small. Ironically, the KM model predicts the rate of the CP-allowed mode psiKsub(s)0, π+π- to be smaller than the CP-forbidden one psiKsub(L)0, π+π-. In some models of maximal CP violation, the CP-allowed mode is actually strictly forbidden and the CP-forbidden one is allowed. (orig.)
