The analysis of load follow operation for the KNGR

Description

In this report, the analysis results of load follow operation performance improvement, which is one of the KNGR Advanced Design Features are described. The characteristics related to load follow operation, especially core control methods ( Mode K) and the integrity analysis methods to assure fuel performance are described. Operation strategy and control mechanism are setup for achieving several goals which are described as follows. The minimization of boron usage in load follow operation to reduce of the active liquid waste; the maintenance of stable core; the mechanism of controls rods for the reactivity of core automatically to reduce of operators load and the adjustment of the axial power distribution. As a result of the analysis, one of the most difficult case is to control the situation during the full power operation after load follow, the power shift at the core bottom, and more detailed research is needed in later. The overseas test cases of the fuel rod failures which the power is distributed partially in the core, especially in case of rapid increase of power are reviewed. The integrity analysis are performed on the point of PCI for the scheduled daily load follow operation, the unscheduled power change, facile gas rejection, fuel cladding fatigue and temperature. In this report, the analysis methodology are also developed. 18 figs., 13 tabs., 30 refs.(Author) .new
