Heat flux instabilities in the solar wind
- 1. University of California, Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory, Los Alamos, New Mexico 87544
Description
The linear dispersion properties of three electron heat flux plasma instabilities are studied in detail by using parameters appropriate to average values in the solar wind at 1 AU. Among the (fast) magnetosonic, Alfven, and whistler instabilities the first one appears most likely to make a significant contribution to the regulation of the heat flux
