Progress in external radiotherapy

The principal progresses in radiotherapy are the conformal irradiation with improvement of imaging, the computed planning in three dimensional calculation to improve the doses calculations, the proton therapy and the use of heavy particles, the guiding by medical imaging. All the progresses must be concentrated on the local control of the tumor without increasing of toxicity. The studies should demonstrate the improvement of the survival and the quality of life of patients suffering of a cancer. (N.C.)
