Some environmental aspects of thermal power plant
Description
Coal is the most economical and easily available fuel for the power generation in India, with an estimated reserve of 85075 MT. Out of the total power production in the country, more than 60% is generated through thermal power plants. While power generation using coal as a fuel is very cost effective, its utilisation is waste with lot of environmental constraints. This paper describes a mathematical model programmed for stack design. Thermal power plants require huge quantum of water for cooling, circulation as well as for other services. A 510 MW thermal power plant consumes around 1656 Ml of water daily. So conservation of water can be thought of at least to some extent by means of ash pond recirculation. The paper discusses computer program of a mental model of the ash pond recirculation system. (author). 4 refs., 2 tabs., 1 fig
