Effect of heavy-ion irradiation on FeAs superconductors

Description
We have carried out heavy-ion irradiations into FeAs superconductors in order to confirm the possible enhancement of critical current density, Jc, in these superconductors by creating columnar defects. 800 MeV Xe irradiation is found to suppress superconducting transition temperature at a rate of dTc/dBΦ=0.18 K/T and enhance Jc at a rate of dJc/dBΦ=0.23 MA/cm2T at 2 K. The effect of Jc enhancement compares well with the recent data on 1.4 GeV Pb irradiation reported by Prozorov et al. However, the rate is a few times smaller than that in 200 MeV Au irradiated crystals. Even stronger suppression of Tc is found in Fe(Te1-xSex), although the rate of suppression fluctuates considerably. By contrast, Jc in Fe(Te1-xSex) is suppressed by Xe irradiation. (author)
