Archaeological involvements of physics
Description
Accounts are given of the three main chronological applications of physics in archaeology: thermoluminescence dating, archaeomagnetism, and radiocarbon dating, with mention of direct detection using a Van de Graaff tandem accelerator. Following these, techniques for the location of buried remains are discussed: magnetic prospection using proton free-precession magnetometry, electrical resistivity surveying, electromagnetic techniques, and other possibilities.
